For my birthday, Sonia took me to Liverpool to watch the final match of the season for Liverpool FC. The match was amazing, and it was a huge bonus to see Jurgen Klopp’s last game as a Red in person. While nothing else could top that as the highlight of the trip, we did take the chance to get some delicious food. Of course Nando’s was on my list of places to eat, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a Jollibee in Liverpool as well. My top food of the trip though had to be Tiger Rock.
Tiger Rock has multiple locations in Liverpool and serves food influenced by the Asian street vendors in Thailand, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. Focus is on small plates that can be eaten on your own or shared amongst everyone at the table. Think of it like tapas but with Asian flavors. One of the main highlights though with Tiger Rock is their gluten free options. Sonia has been focused on a gluten free diet, so it was nice to see that the restaurant not only served gluten free dishes but also had gluten free options for certain dishes that did include gluten.
We ate at the John Street location which was still fairly busy around 8:00pm when we arrived. Since we didn’t make a reservation, we were a bit worried of a wait, but they were able to seat us quickly. The menu has several items to choose from and is broken out to small plates, small bowls, salads and greens, sides and desserts. There are also seasonal selections on a separate menu. Food comes to the table as prepared.
Since we were starving, we opted to share two items, but we each also ordered our own small plate and and our own small bowl.
Shared Plates
Bak Choi – We chose to make this gluten free since Sonia would be eating it. There were about 5 pieces on the plate, which were topped with some crispy garlic and dried shrimp.

Lobster and Asparagus – This was from the seasonal menu and perfectly portioned to share for 2.

Jen’s Plates
Po Pia Phet – 2 small duck spring rolls with drizzled hoisin to top.

Pad Thai – Very filling portion of pad thai with chicken and tofu.

Sonia’s Plates
Enogimaki – This was another item that Sonia ordered as the gluten free option. The portion of steak is nice, and for a second, I thought they forgot the mushrooms.

Rendang Kentang – Slow cooked beef that was very tender and served over a baked potato.

Dessert
Mango Sticky Rice Pudding – Shared dessert to end a delicious meal.

For small plates, we were both stuffed by the end. We wish we had found this place sooner as the menu has so many options, and we wanted to try more dishes. Hopefully, we can get back to Liverpool soon, as we plan on returning to Tiger Rock. Price for the entire meal was 76.01 GBP, which we found affordable for everything we ordered. If you find yourself in Liverpool, we highly recommend Tiger Rock.
Until next time, happy travels and happy eating!
