Otelo – Costa Adeje, Tenerife (Canary Islands)

As part of our travels, Sonia and I always try to pay special attention to local specialties or must eats. For our trip to Tenerife, a lot of the reviews were focused on the fresh seafood and potatoes. We were pleasantly surprised though when we came across Otelo on the Costa Adeje promenade.

The specialty in focus for Otelo is Canarian chicken, which was something we had not seen in our research prior to the trip. Not having read anything though, Otelo was not on our list of restaurants. Fortunately, for us, we came across it when we couldn’t find one of our planned ones.

Otelo has 2 locations, one closer to Mount Tiede, and one near the beach. While we went to the latter, when we return, we will look to visit the other location as well.

The menu for Otelo isn’t massive when compared to some of the other restaurants on the promenade, but it does not need to me. If you are coming here to eat, you want to focus on what they do best. While there are 2 specialties on the menu – the chicken and the rabbit, we only ordered the chicken this time.

English Menu for Otelo

for our meal, we ordered the chicken in garlic and the Canarian potatoes. There is an option to order garlic mayo and/or red mojo to accompany your meal, and we highly recommend ordering both. Both sauces compliment the chicken and potatoes in unique ways that for us they brought our meal to whole new level.

The chicken itself had a perfect, crunchy skin, while the inside remained moist and juicy. The garlic flavor was perfectly balanced so that each bite was consistent and delicious.

As for the potatoes, they are the traditional papas arrugadas. These were perfectly boiled with a nice salt crust and the ideal tenderness. While tradition is to eat these with the mojo, the garlic mayo was nice on the potatoes as well.

Perfect side to accompany the chicken. Just look at that salt crust.

Otelo is one of those restaurants that leaves a lasting impression as the food really shines. For our meal, we were helped by the wife of the couple who own the restaurants. From chatting with her, it was clear the pride they have in their restaurants and the care they place on the food they serve. With all the chain restaurants and food trends out in the world right now, Otelo stands apart.

Otelo is located at C.C Litoral, Calle Londres, s/n, Costa Adeje, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Calle de los Molinos, 44, 38670 Adeje, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
